30 hours doesn’t seem like a long time but it can certainly change the world. The youth are going to be doing the 30 Hour Famine.  Before the event the youth will be raising funds to help with the World Hunger Crisis.  In 2011 19,000 children under 5 years old died due to hunger related issues EVERYDAY.  woah, let that sink in…. we are called to do something about this need.  Jesus calls us to help because when we are helping others we are doing it to and for Jesus (Matthew 25:31-46).  There is no reason Jesus should be going hungry.  Maybe you are thinking we can’t change the ENTIRE world.   Maybe we can’t, but we can change the world of some.  Like the boy and the starfish story you get in your emails. The 30 Hour Famine can change the world for two major people the youth and someone in need.

 

 

Change the world of your youth

The fast can have a spiritual change.  In the Bible, people fasted for a lot of different reasons: To get right with God (Nehemiah 9:1), As an act of worship (Acts 13:2), To discern the Lord’s will (2 Chronicles 20:3), and Jesus fasted to get ready for His public ministry (Matthew 4:2).  Whatever the reason, fasting helps people break free from the clutter of our world so they can focus their thoughts and prayers on what God wants. In other words fasting can bring our group closer to Christ.  When we help someone we are living out our faith.  This is very powerful as this connects us deeper with God.

There can be an experiential change.  The youth will have an opportunity to actually get a taste(pun intended) of what life is like for the hungry children they are helping.  It will be less extreme but it can help provide a frame of reference.  Sometimes we just don’t have a clue how others live or are suffering.  Empathy is important.

There can be a relational change.  The event has the opportunity to bring the group closer.  A common challenge unites us.

 

Change the world of someone else

The funds raised will help change the world that someone lives in.  The money does not just go to feed them but to break them out of the cycle of poverty.  The money goes to equip families with tools they need to put food on their table year-round.  World Vision educates parents about improved faming techniques.  They also provide better farming equipments and seeds.  They also provide access to to clean water.  They also provide medical care and food assistance when there is a disaster.

When are basic needs are met we are able to grow.  Many of these children do not have the opportunity for a life much less an education.  The funds raised will ACTUALLY help to change their personal world.

$35 dollars can feed a child for a month.  That is a small amount but can have a great impact.
